Wow...I was blown-away. I learned about Lori through a virtual Facebook party and loved that she had the first chapter available to read. That my friend is what hooked me! Her vivid writing easily drew me into the story. I personally love when a good author writes and you don't just read the words...you live the words. It's a picture painted on paper, but it feels like real life and that you're the main character in the novel. I love that Lori's chapters are true chapters rather than the shorter chapters often seen today with e-readers. There are so many climatic points that it keeps you on edge while wishing and hoping for the perfect outcome! For me a great book is one that you try to read every available free moment and one that you fall asleep and dream about and wake up eager to pick-up where you left off. This is that type of book! Filled with a woman's Highland warrior laird, the reader easily becomes Maggie and just as easily falls in love with Laird Lachlan Cameron. My only sadness is that I have to wait for Lori to make another one of her works available to read! Highly recommend my new favorite author! She won't leave you disappointed.
I enjoyed Highland Deception and I am looking forward to more books in the series. Our heroine Maggie was pretty wonderful and it was her character that drew me into the story. She was witty, beautiful, tenacious and easy to fall in love with. Which was what our hero did despite his misgivings and the hurt and betrayal he had suffered in the past because of a woman. The attraction between Maggie and Lachlan developed nicely, it was believable, very sweet yet sensual. The overall plot was good, richly woven with history and beautiful description of the highlands. The romance was sweet and wonderful, and I am truly eager to read more from this author.
I absolutely loved this book. I love Scottish Historical Romances, and this book was right up there with some great authors that i read. I won't go into detail about the book, as others have already done that, but when I finished this book, I had to sit there and think for a minute.....what about Robbie? Please tell me there is another book about him coming out! I love books with secondary characters that I want to know more about.I love this authors writing. Not too much history to make it boring, just enough to make it interesting and I love that there's just enough brogue to make it authentic for me. The editing seemed perfect, so I wasn't distracted from the book with mistakes.I really, really loved this book and there were parts that I was on the edge of my seat.....just enough to make my heart pound for a while.Will be waiting for the next book from this author, as she is now on my favorite author list.
A firmly rounded up 4.5. Highland Deception was a fun romp, with good descriptive prose bringing the sights, sounds and brawniness of the highlands to life. There was, of course, the predictable tension brought about by numerous misunderstandings, but none of it was overly prolonged as happens so frequently in romance. Maggie and Lachlan both have secrets they believe more important than their growing infatuation for each other, but the HEA gods intervene in a timely manner, allowing them to finally admit and share their unexpected love. Ms. Bailey dropped interesting hints throughout the novel of characters who might appear in a subsequent volume, and I took the bait and am eager to find out just what happened between Lachlan's sister and his best friend.
Maggie is a runaway twenty one year old daughter of the Duke of Kirk. Lachlan Cameron is the laird of his clan , on the run from Edinburgh to his keep in the north of Scotland. He is protecting a mysterious young boy, Robbie, and a missive to the other Lords of the Highlands. They are brought together unexpectedly, and he feels obligated to bring Maggie north with him. From this point the story just gets better and better. The author writes an exciting, twist filled, can put it down novel about love triumphing through adversity. I very much enjoyed it and can’t wait to read the second in the series, hopefully finding answers to questions about other characters.
This was a very enjoyable Highland Romance. I was pulled into the story from the first page and was kept enthralled throughout the entire novel. Maggie and Lachlan were such great characters. I loved how spirited Maggie was despite being controlled by her overbearing father. She was a beautiful and enigmatic woman. Lachlan couldn't help but fall for this lovely lass despite his being hurt in the past. The chemistry between these two was palpable and sparks definitely flew between them. The historic details added depth to the plot and I could easily picture the scenes. I am eager to read what Lori Ann Bailey has in store for us next!
I loved the goodness of the good guys and the utter badness of the bad guys. All the characters were believable....not larger than life but people I would love to know. I read this was the author's first book and am very pleased it's not her last. Not too much sex, only in connection with the story line and not so oogie that it left nothing to the imagination. I absolutely loved the story line. I think it was a great book. I will not give a line by line on Ms. Bailey's book, but I am glad I bought it and am anxious to read her follow up books on her additional characters. If you like this genre, read it!!! You will be glad.
I'm horrible at writing book reviews but when I find a book I really enjoy, I feel obligated to spread the word! When I read books, in my mind it's almost like there is a movie playing and This book sucked me right in to Lachlan and Maggie's world and I could not put it down. As a Mom it usually takes me a couple of days to a week to finish a book but I finished this one in less than a day! One of those stories you wish would never end! Kudos to Lori Ann Bailey, I can not wait for her next book.
