This is one of the best books I've read.It showed me that six figure women face the same issues that we all do: Fear, doubting your own worth and your abilities, etc.Every page I read got me more inspired and motivated to keep going. I'm an Entrepreneur, and while reading the book, I started implementing ideas I had been too scared to try. And they are working! This book gave me the strenght, courage and the kick on my ass I needed to unleash my potential.

Although, I don't remember exactly what I read in this book, something must have rubbed off because I quit working at a job that wasn't aligned with my purpose and was actually costing me to get there, only to find a better paying job, but then wasn't a healthy environment, but instead of staying, I left much much quicker than it normally would take for me to realize it wasn't worth it.I didn't really try to stay and "work it out" or "deal with it" and then I finally just left the industry altogether to find something perfectly in alignment with me and my ultimate goals. I found that job a couple months later and when hired, I was given a raise on the spot, which as a serial under earner was a huge deal.I definitely think to change we've got to learn from those who are doing, so although as an artist, I couldn't completely relate or want to be the women she wrote about. I do believe that this and her other book helped me on a subconscious level.Along with this, I've been reading Overcoming Under Earning, also by Barbara Stanny, Mindset by Carol Dweck, and a book called Unleash Your Inner Money Babe by Kathrin Zenkina.

I cannot say enough GREAT THINGS about this book! She hit the core of sooo many hidden issues and changed my entire thought process! She’s EXCELLANT! I’ve already passed it along to my daughter with the stipulation that I get the book back to devour it at least one more time. I wish there were more stars to rate it! Excellent read! If you really want to succeed in business Ladies, the is a MUST READ!

Because of this book, I am sure I will earn a little more but, even more important, I will be more comfortable while I'm doing it.This book is about women who earn from $100,000 to $7 million per year. Their combined average income is an impressive $500,000. (See p. 16.) The book also examines perpetual underearners: "anyone who earns below her potential." (See p. 46 for more context about who is and isn't an underearner.)It was striking to me that the main difference between the high earners and the underearners was mostly attitude. After all, many undearners work as hard or are as gifted in their profession as the high earners.Some of the examples were of women who became six-figure earners late in life. I grew up in a household of underearners. This book hit home for me as I try to get childhood friends and family members out of that mindset. As a woman who has started her own business it is great to read how woman set their rates! The chapter on money was my favorite. Thank you Courtney Sanders for recommending this book on Think and Grow Chick's podcast.

Absolutely loved this book. My favorites were how women shared the common fears and stress because sometimes we feel like it’s just us. I liked the money part about getting out of debt and I’ve seen other material about the same topic but she put more emphasis as to why and a game plan. I didn’t like so much about the relationship part; may have to let go of a relationship if it’s keeping you from doing you. I wish she would’ve added why and more details what’s a good thriving relationship and what’s toxic instead of just saying let it go.

Great book! Basic information you already know, but encouraging to hear how other very successful women succeeded despite opposition and personal anxieties.

Love the interviews both on and off the record that she was able to obtain. A must read for any career minded person, whether female or not!

This is the second Maclean book that I have read and this one is very different from her previous one. Unlike her earlier book on the development of the Klan, this book is less academic and instead is sounding the alarm bell on what is in effect the slow transformation of the functioning in the government in this country. What this book does is draw a connection between the disparate parts that anyone who follows politics at all has seen. How do groups like the Libertarian party seem to be so well funded despite the lack of any significant electoral success? How do think tanks like the Cato Institute become so well funded and have such an out spoken voice? This book sheds light on that as well as how it all got started. The book begins in Virginia with the movement to keep school segregated and the transition of the movement from the blatant race based politics to the argument for "choice" in its place. It traces the career of John Buchanan, a conservative economist and his lifelong efforts to spread his movement of public choice and shape American society based on these principles. The key to Buchanan's success and others that think like him was his tireless fundraising and the generous funding that he and others like him received from Charles and David Koch and other wealthy donors who stood to directly benefit from their proposed policies. The book follows Buchanan's career and uses it to explore the inner workings of the far right/ libertarian ideological thought. I thought this book was highly informative and it drew connections between a lot of thing that I had observed in politics but did not know all of the details too. The author does a good job of explaining her argument as well as documenting it. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in politics and the slow motion attack on this country's social safety net.

I was glued to this book and have recommended it to several friends, James Buchanan developed a master plan and the Kochs had the money to implement the plan to do nothing less than shift our Democracy to Oligarchy. And its working. The reasons for billionaires in the cabinet positions, who are destroying whole sectors of government such as Education, the EPA, consumer protection, the VA become clear. As do the reasons for so much polarization and the successful effort to overtake the supreme court in Buchanan's plan.It is a coherent plan. Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid are next. And it's all going on right under our noses. All the Libertarian bashing of Ms MacLean only legitimizes her book more.

Democracy in Chains, Nancy MacLean, 2017I was thinking; should I recommend a book which is likely to alarm and disturb people about the current state of our political system more than they already are? However, this book is too well researched and too important not to be read. Nancy Maclean gave a lecture at the Lensic three weeks ago and I was alarmed enough to get her new book. The book concerns a character the name of whom most people have never heard, James Buchanan. He began his career at the University of Virginia in the 1950’s as head of the economics department and became politically involved in his states efforts to stop implementation of Brown vs. Board of education in 1955. Here the terms “School Choice” and “School Vouchers” were first used to try to convert Virginia’s public education system to a private system. Eventually Virginia’s and Buchanan’s efforts to destroy public education were thwarted by the federal judiciary. The effort radicalized Buchanan and led him on a lifelong quest to convert America to the causes of economic freedom for the wealthy, the “makers” and libertarianism. The book tells the story of how Buchanan eventually allied himself to the Koch Brother’s millions at George Mason University in Virginia to establish the intellectual backbone and Cadre to implement Koch’s ideas. As Lenin realized the importance of establishing an ideologically pure and dedicated cadre of zealots in the Russian revolution, so the Koch Brothers and Buchanan came to the same conclusion. So out of George Mason economics department came the foot soldiers to man the many Koch think tanks such as the Heritage Foundation, Americans for Prosperity, The Cato Institute, Freedom Works, ALEC, the Reason Foundation and then into the Republican party. Out of the GMU law center, the Mercatus Center, came ideologically pure libertarian recruits to The Koch’s Federalist Society from where they are now being appointed in unprecedented numbers to the Federal bench. What this book makes you realize is the unprecedented scale, the long range over decades, step by step plan, the ideological determination and the billions of dollars from one family to implement what is in essence an oligarchy of the super-rich. Both Buchanan and Koch realized that their plan could not be implemented through public support. Rather it had to be implemented by subterfuge, by slowly changing the rules of the game, changing the courts, changing who could vote. In the last year, being distracted by a reality show carnival barker, mostly below media scrutiny, we have seen ideas being implemented that are shown in the book as having been conceived many decades ago by Buchanan: efforts to privatize social security and Medicare, evisceration of environmental, medical insurance and financial regulations, appointment of right-wing ideologues as judges, right-to-work union busting, hollowing out of key federal bureaucracies, privatization of public functions, tax cuts for the rich and corporations, voter suppression. As MacLean says “The United States is now at one of those historic forks in the road whose outcome will prove as fateful as those of the 1860s, the 1930s and the 1960s. To value liberty for the wealthy minority above all else and enshrine it in the nation’s governing rules, as Calhoun and Buchanan both called for and the Koch network is achieving, play by play, is to consent to an oligarchy in all but the outer husk of representative form”. We are truly at a dangerous junction and moment. This is essential reading for all concerned. JACK

The thesis is clear from the title and the documentation and support very cogent.Nancy MacLean really knows her stuff and I look forward to more insights as she prepares them. Our country really is in danger. If more people would take the time to read this, then the real citizens would take back the country from the plutocrats that are said to represent us.MacLean carefully explains the stages of growth for the movement to hijack our representative democracy. In person, she warns us of the real possibility of a new Constitutional Convention to seal the deal that many fanatics and even many conservatives support. Those populists that thrive on hostility also lose under the institutionalization of limited government participation. A world of survival of the richest.

Time is relatively short. Readers of this book must find a way to share its contents. We must not be coerced into a way of life regulated by corporation kings deceiving the majority of this country. Our way of life may be forever changed. Do not let this happen.

I found many of the exercises in this workbook useful for further understanding personal financing. The chapter on retirement is particularly useful.I purchased the Kindle version of the book, but as I read through it, I wish I purchased the paper version instead to mark up and complete the exercises. Nevertheless, I just highlighted passages in the Kindle version and copied and pasted selected exercises in my digital journal so that I can review them later.While the Makeover workbook is must read for personal finance management, I disagree with Ramsey on the advice of paying with cash. As a three-year user of the YouNeedaBudget.com budget-to-zero method, I have disciplined myself to use my two credit cards like debit cards. Because I use the YNAB application to budget, I pay off my credit balances every month, sometimes a a few times a mouth, because I don't allow my balances to go over 30% of my credit line, to maintain a credit score. By using the cards instead of cash, I can keep track of every dollar I spend, and I can effectively budget for all my monthly and future expenses. Plus I get reward points for using the cards.The Makeover Workbook is useful for thinking about money management (seriously avoid debt like a plague), but YNAB is the tool than can help you build a budgeting discipline. YNAB has helped me save thousands of dollars even though I have relatively limited freelance, contract income.

My husband and I started our debt free journey with The Total Money Makeover on audio book. How I wish we had the benefit of this workbook when we started the baby steps. I believe in Dave Ramsey's program for financial freedom so much that I've purchased two of these workbooks and two of the hard copy books The Total Money Makeover and gave them to two of the ladies I work with. I purchased the Financial Peace University home study kit and gifted that to my sister and brother-in-law a few months back. If I'm able to help any of them even begin thinking about beginning their debt free journeys then it was money spent very well. Needless to say, I highly recommend this workbook and all of the financial management tools produced by Dave Ramsey and his team.

If you have the book (I have the audio book) this is pointless. I thought it would have great budgeting worksheets-nope. I wish the description would've said that they have the same info. I'll just buy a budgeting book instead - actually I'll make a budgeting binder!!

This is a new way to look at facing down debt and helping you to live within a budget. It is plain english and contains real stories of folks who have used this plan. I am currently working this plan. I recommend this book to anyone struggling with their finances.

I provide these as gifts to young people. Many of them have paid off their school loans and made wise choices on housing.

Great guide to implementing the total money makeover!

Ramsey’s writing style is clear and easy to read. Humorous as well. My spouse and I are enjoying his financial tips. They work as well.

If your looking for debut freedom. You picked the right book. Follow the baby steps because it works.
