This book is well researched and written and a most interesting read for the Folkboat enthusiast and others who appreciate the significance of wooden boats. 'The Folkboat Story' The Folkboat Story is a history of the wooden Folkboat and its wooden derivatives. It touches on reinforced glass fibre versions and gives an insight into the importance and wide distribution of this class of yacht. The wooden Folkboat is an elegant small yacht (25 feet) that is suitable for harbour/lake racing and ocean cruising and its attributes are carefully drawn by Dieter Loibner.

This is a superbly researched and eminently readable text on the history of the Folkboat and the author also manages to include many of the derivations from the european wooden folkboat into the north american fiberglass market. A must for every sailor's bookshelf.

This book is hilarious! This book had both me and my hubby cracking up. It's not meant to be taken so seriously, but it just makes you feel a little better about parenting because you can relate to some of the scenarios which is quite refreshing!If you're looking for a book that seriously addresses parenting issues, this book isn't for you. But if you're looking for a laugh buy this book and enjoy it. The chapters are short and dirty reads which is even more of a bonus, because who has lots of time to read with a baby right?!

If you need to be validated as a parent, here you go.I needed it.

If you can't answer 'yes' to at least one of the questions in the Sh*tty Mom quiz then I suggest you put this book down and walk away. It takes time to get a little perspective on the whole parenting thing so don't despair, in another year or two, or after another child or two, you will be ready to enjoy the irreverent advice and humour found in this tongue in cheek guide to motherhood. Sh*tty Mom: The Guide for Good Enough Moms has a structure similar to the early parenting guides you read so intently while you were pregnant but with chapter headings such as "How To Hand Off the Newborn Who just Filled a Diaper" and "Stop Looking for a Great Babysitter and Settle for One who Shows Up", it lacks the traditional wise and scientifically proven judgements passed down from pediatricians whose own children were raised by their (bilingual) nannies. Essentially this is a stand up comedy show script with lines written strictly for audience reaction. I couldn't help but snigger here and there and even laughed loud enough for my husband to ask 'what was so funny?' on occasion. There were scenes that went a little far, even for my relaxed mothering style, but I am sure a redneck somewhere thought they were hilarious. Even though there is little in this book in the way of serious, or even legal, advice there is a kernel of wisdom buried under the snarky wit and carefree attitude of Sh*tty Mom. Parenting is, at times, exhausting, thankless, and insanely competitive. Sometimes "good enough" is the best you can do, and that's OK

I was getting this as a gag gift for my expecting wife. I was hoping for something edgier with more adult humor. It didn't make me laugh.

My daughter read this for her AP English class and I thought I should read this classic piece of literature as I had never had the opportunity. So I bought it and could not put it down. Months later, I am still thinking about this book, envisioning the cast of characters and events in the novel. Zora Neale Hurston was such a beautiful storyteller. I can see why this book is a classic piece of literature and in my mind, it stand heads above many of the other pieces of literature of have read from this period. I cannot recommend it enough to people.Hurston opens up a space for us to envision life shortly after Emancipation - where African Americans were freed but not free. She illuminates an early Black community (true) and one of the strong women (fictional) in that community. The trials and tribulations of the many characters and the barriers they encountered - the moments of joy, happiness, and pain all grip the reader and help the reader to not only imagine but to feel what it might have felt like to live during this time in the community with the people. A masterful work.

I've set a goal to reread the classics I read when I was way too young to appreciate them. I first read THEIR EYES WERE WATCHING GOD because my older friend, Becky, told me it was "great" when I was about ten. I remember thinking it was a nice story, and that's about it. Coming back to forty years later, I can agree that it's great, but there's so much more here.The most special part of Zora Neale Hurston's writing is that she takes subjects that society wants to segment into "good" or "bad" and makes them human -- thereby making them complicated. Subjects like infidelity, domestic abuse, killing for self-protection, killing as an act of mercy, colorism, white savior complex, poverty, female pride, female submission, moral relativism... You name a tough topic, and Hurston handles it in this book with a deft touch rarely found in today's world.NOW I understand why it's a classic & don't just have to take everyone else's word for it. Definitely worth a read or ten.

Hurston gives a window view into a place that shows a growing or blossoming of a woman's life. It journeys on a three-fold path from Janie's life with her grandma through 3 marriages that unfold new discoveries of Janie as she awakens to the power of her ability to lead herself. Hurston was ahead of her time in the sense that she was already living as one who did not need to fight the battle but had arrived and 'was.'

This is truly a classic and teachable from so many direction you will not be able to stand it. You can run a class for nearly a month discussing the levels, layers, textures, and nuances to the characters and their intentions. There are modes of language, characterization, dialect, motivation, conflict, and desire that can go on forever in a classroom or book club discussion. I fell in love with the woman with so much pain from men, but always willing to feel love. You will be entangled in the world of these people so quickly you will not believe it. I suggest you download the audible version so you can take in the dynamics of Ruby Dee reading Hurston's beautiful language.

This must be very nearly a perfect novel, a short classic like Old Man and the Sea, Great Gatsby, Catcher in the Rye, Huckleberry Finn, with its own unique style and identity.... The racy black vernacular drives the story along while the voice of the narrator achieves levels of poetic intensity approaching myth... I found it gripping almost to the point of unputdownable from the first sentence...

I can't remember the last time I read a book that moved me as deeply as 'Their Eyes Were Watching God." But like all "great" books, it may not be for everyone. A Millennial reader, for example, might be inclined to lose patience with a woman who spends 20 years of her life with a couple loser husbands before meeting her one true love. Even though there is no story without that context. It's also possible that an older generation of women readers, Baby Boomers, for example, may be more inclined to sit quietly and say nothing, while nodding and smiling gently in response to a Millennial reader's impatience.The man who finally enters Janie's life and steals her heart is not without flaws. But. He knows how to love her. Deeply, unconditionally, joyfully. There is no "happily ever after" for Tea Cake and Janie, but what he gives her in the brief time they are together is life: fully realized, fully lived.A remarkable work of literary fiction by a skilled and soulful writer who knew stuff.

Zora Neale Hurston catches the spirit of African-Americans at that time and masterfully relays it to readers with a skilful mix of vernacular and formal English. This book is somber, insightful, relatable, and witty. More than once its blending of humor and imagery that is so uniquely Black caught me off guard, sending me into fits of laughter. Conversely, the journey and trials that Janie goes through are near heartbreaking. That this book was published in 1937 and still so powerful is a testament to the author's skill. Those who are not familiar with African-American or Caribbean dialect may find this a more challenging read, but it is well worth it.

Today's middle schoolers often lack real world role models to challenge their character development. I remember reading my way through shelves of biographies in my school library's biography section. However, my own 10 year-old granddaughter shows no such desire, preferring rather to get lost in fantasies where children, cats, and magic determine the world's fate. Thus, I chose to read this book in hopes of enticing her to dream a little more realistically about her own future.My conclusion? This author chose an interesting writing style in which to communicate the biography of a woman with a great deal of character and determination. I am looking forward to challenging my granddaughter's character growth and understanding of the world around her with this book during her middle school years.

I loved this book. I bought it for my pre-teen girls and they loved it too. It was wonderful to be able to talk to my girls about the fact that this book was based on a true story. The girls couldn't get over how different of a life the girl in the story had as compared with our own experiences. It really opened up that sense of wonder for them and I loved seeing that in them. The story really captivated me as well as the kids.

My son was assigned this book for middle school and my wife and I read it as well. All three of us enjoyed it a lot. I felt that the ending was rushed, but I am very glad to have read it. It is the type of book that sparks conversation and thought. Very enjoyable!

I enjoyed the juxtaposition of scenes from Beryl Markham's childhood and her flight westward across the Atlantic. Some people don't like that, but I did not feel that it detracted at all. It was an interesting biography.

Wonderful retelling of many facts in Berle Cutterbucks life. Michaela uses her story writing ability to make this story interesting and fun.

Promise the Night I found it to be A very good book. It kept me waiting to see what was coming in the next chapter.

Andy Seliverstoff is well known as a dog show photographer in Russia and throughout Europe. But once he started taking pictures of little kids and their big dogs he saw the "endless joy and mutual confidence between the children and the animals." His first collection of these pictures, Little Kids and Their Big Dogs conveys this message loud and clear: "Love for dogs and children make people kinder." Just try looking at these pictures and not break out in a big grin.The first thing you notice about this book is how huge these dogs are! I rarely see dogs this big. (Of course, I don't spend my time at dog shows like Mr. Seliverstoff does.) And the kids are so cute and little. The contrast between the two, as you would guess from the title, is striking. But on a deeper level is the way Seliverstoff has captured the relationship between the kids and the dogs. It's evident each enjoys and adores the other.I will resist the temptation to run out and find a giant dog to bring home. I'm sorry, but as wonderful as they look in the picture I know they will eat copious amounts of dog food and leave enormous deposits on my lawn. Hopefully these cute kids are also learning to care for and clean up after their large friends.Dog lovers and kid lovers will enjoy every page of this beautifully photographed book.Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the complimentary electronic review copy!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The pictures are great and gave us a giggle when we turned each page. There were many AHHs and HAHAs when leafing through the book. Our niece did the same thing when she read it. :-)

This cookbook is a go to for any night of the week. I highly recommend it for anyone who loves food, loves to cook, and doesn't have hours to prep. I order and experiment with cookbooks as if I get paid to do it (I don't). So many of them look promising and beautiful but under deliver. I have tried 12 of the recipes in this book and they have all turned out spectacular! They all work. Which is saying something. One of the best parts is that the recipes are also simple, it doesn't take days of even hours of prep to get a delicious healthy meal on the table. My 8 year old son loves that he gets to be part of building his own bowl, he can pick and choose what he wants to put in it. Often times he can't help himself and tries everything just because it feels like a fun experiment.Bonus: Nicki shares tip and tricks for shortcuts, there is a conversion chart, and to top it all off the index is super easy to use!

I'm in love with this cookbook! The idea of combining fresh, flavorful, whole foods to create a one-bowl meal is so appealing, and after trying a few of the recipes, I'm hooked. Our favorite so far is the Crunchy Vietnamese-Inspired Chicken & Rice Salad. I even took author Nicki Sizemore's advice and tried it with black rice (nuttier than brown rice, and absolutely delish!). We also loved her Asian Meatballs with Sesame Broccoli and the vegetarian Mujadarra with Caramelized Onions. Nicki's recipes have inspired me to venture out of my comfort zone and try new grains, spices, and sauces (her Garlic Yogurt is to DIE for!). If you're a cookbook lover like me, you'll have as much fun poring over the beautifully photographed pages as you will choosing recipes and making meals. A wonderful addition to the cookbook shelf!

I am a mom who is always looking for new, healthy recipes to put together for my family. I have no creativity whatsoever! This cookbook makes it so easy! The recipes are not only easy to follow, but they are super healthy and delicious. There is something for everyone. I am excited to try each and every one of them. This is my second cookbook by Nicki Sizemore and I love it just as much as the first. She makes cooking (which is normally a chore for me) fun! I would HIGHLY recommend!!

I am a mom of 4 young kids (10 and under) and the struggle is real to come up with healthy, quick meals that ALL 6 of us like! I love that this cookbook is full of complete meals that are packed with flavor, super healthy, quick enough to make on a busy weeknight (the Make Ahead Options are life savers!) and help me introduce my kids to new ingredients that they haven't tried before. This cookbook completely takes the guess work out of "what should we make with that chicken?" etc. I also love the cooking and ingredient tips sprinkled throughout the cookbook! I feel like I'm getting educated while I'm cooking! This is my second cookbook of Nicki Sizemore's and I have to say that I'm already looking forward to her next!!

I love this cookbook. I am not a great cook and I don't have a lot of time so, I am trying to eat healthy food that can be ready in a hurry. This book offers a lot of very flavorful options for doing that. The meals are very satisfying.

I really like and have tried most of the recipes in this book. Helpful advice on prep, selection, and execution of some tasty bowls. Well written with a little humor thrown in but not enough pictures of the finished product! All and all a good inspiration for those looking to eat healthier.

This book is just what I needed for fast but healthy food that everyone could eat. The author answered all my questions as if she knew what I wanted. I will use this book over and over.

Great for both student and practitioner needing brush up. Concise and logically arranged. Well illustrated.

Nice and compact

This is a good pocket guide and the price was right. No apparent wear and tear in much better condition than I expected. Has proved helpful many times over

Good concise review of pediatric assessment

This book was amazing. It breaks down the assessment specifically for pediatric patients which is my speciality.

Came fairly promptly. I would, however, like to get a larger, more complete textbook for Pediatric Assessment like the textbook Mosby's has called Guide to Physical Examination.

I LOVE this handbook. I've used it on my pediatric rotations as a nursing undergrad, and in primary care clinical as an NP student. It has all the key info, tables, and diagrams you would hope for in a pediatric assessment handbook - growth charts, developmental tables, vital signs tables, illustrations of common skin lesions, normal lab values, dif dx of cough, genogram and ecomap samples, etc. It has content applicable to primary and hospital care, although it seems a little more oriented to primary care. I'd recommended it to any student nurse doing pediatrics rotations or to nurses new to pediatrics.The only drawback is that the book is a few years old, so the immunization tables in the index are outdated, but it's easy enough to get updated immunization info online.

I bought this book to help me train nurses for inhospital pediatric care at a community hospital. The book is divided into chapters with quick reference tables that are easy to find (unlike the ones in Harriet Lane which are buried in the chapters). The nurses have expressed how easy to use the book is and how much practical information they now have available to them in seconds.
