This book is a theological treasure. I read it over several times and want to study it again. I appreciated the comparison between other denominations and Lutherans. It reminded me in G.K. Chesterton's ORTHODOXY "if some small mistake were made in doctrine, huge blunders might be made in human happiness." Thankfully I was raised a traditional Lutheran, and hence have a solid Scriptural foundation. All the writers were good. My favorite was Uwe Simon-Netto. In Vocation vs Narcissus, he stated "..there is an intriguing aura about the mother, scientist, farmer, statesman, car mechanic, soldier, or reporter serving their neighbor while exercising their ordinary vocation, not in a narcissistic or greedy manner, but out of love. It triggers curiosity. It makes bystanders wonder, "What motivates you, what makes you act that way?" This gives the believer the opportunity to talk about his or her faith."I absorbed this as a young girl from my parents and pastor. It's a hugely powerful motivator. I didn't realize it was so Lutheran until reading this book. It has been the basis for my professional practice for the past 30 years.I hope this book gets a wide readership, especially among young people. The Cross is key. That's where the power comes from.Lois PettyWestport, CT

When I saw the list of topics and the names of some of my favorite authors, I figured it would be good, but it exceeded my expectations. I can add my support to the other positive reviews and will not go into detail about the content. I think the special positive is that it is quite inviting and engaging, not polemical and confrontational which can happen with a book comparing theological stances. I think it would draw in a thoughtful person who may not have given a lot of attention to these issues lately. Why would I want to be part of a Lutheran congregation rather than go to the nice Roman Catholic or Reformed or Baptist church down the street? The text moves along and it says a lot in relatively few pages. I agree that it might be suitable for an adult Bible Class or book club.

This is an outstanding collection of essays on vocation and other great doctrinal topics. We purchased two copies for Kindle and a hard copy for the library.

Used this book for a group discussion on the influence of the Reformation. Excellent review with historical background.

This was a very good read. I learned a lot about the Reformation and the Lutheran faith. I would certainly recommend it to my friends.

An extraordinary gathering of readings that amplify and deepen appreciation for the ongoing, Lutheran reformation that God effects for us in the present Christ.

Fine collection of essays

I learned many things. Even growing up "Lutheran" I must have missed many things. I Thank you for this book.
